2024 was another year of dedication, perseverance, and hard work from the staff at the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. Throughout the year, our team focused on delivering our core public health programs and services to members of our community, while remaining open and embracing the changing landscape of public health across the province. Whether it was our beach water monitoring program, immunization clinics, dental screenings for children and older adults, or home visits for new parents, our staff worked diligently towards the goal of promoting, protecting, and improving the health of the residents in Windsor-Essex County.
While public health will likely always be regarded for its role in disease prevention, we continue to raise awareness around the multi-faceted ways we support better health for all residents. Public health staff work diligently on a wide range of strategies and services such as, advocating for healthy policies, working collaboratively with community partners, and supplying health data for our region. In doing so, I want to thank our valued community partners for their collaboration and openness to adopting new approaches to advance public health services in our region
In October, the WECHU underwent a departmental reorganization to better align our work with the updated Ontario Public Health Standards. This change resulted in shifting amongst our teams as new departments were created and staff moved into new roles. I am truly proud of the resiliency of our team as they embraced the new challenges, recognizing the need to adapt as public health transforms.
Every member of the team at the WECHU plays an important role in enhancing the health of Windsor-Essex residents. I continue to be proud of the impact of our organization, as we find innovative ways to support our community. Additionally, I would like to thank the members of the Board of Health for their continued support and guidance. I am excited to see what we can accomplish in 2025.
