The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) has been supporting the health of Windsor-Essex County residents for over 100 years. The skilled and dedicated staff at the WECHU work diligently towards the vision of healthy people in a healthy community, through the provision of both health promotion and health protection initiatives.
The WECHU is responsible for delivering programs and resources to enhance the health of individuals living in the region. Following the Ontario Public Health Standards, the WECHU supports health topics such as disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, safer substance use, oral health, and healthy growth and development. Public health works quietly in the background, providing services such as food premise inspections, breastfeeding classes for new parents, and hosting immunization clinics, all with the goal of fostering a healthy community.
The 2024 Annual Report contains highlights of the impressive work carried out by the WECHU, but it’s important to note that it does not capture all the work completed by our staff.
