Extreme Weather

Windsor-Essex County Health Unit issues extreme temperature warnings (heat warnings and cold warnings) to inform the residents, local agencies, stakeholders, and the media in Windsor and Essex County of the forecast of extreme weather events.

This is to ensure that everyone is provided with information and recommendations to prepare appropriately for the effects of extreme temperatures.

While the health risks related to extreme temperatures are higher for certain groups (such as seniors, young children, people taking certain medications and people with chronic conditions), everyone is potentially at risk. Extreme temperatures can cause heat related illnesses (such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and heat cramps), or cold related injuries (such as hypothermia and frostbite).
