The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit offers free e-learning modules on Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and Trauma-Informed Care.
About the Modules
There are two modules that organizations can use to train staff. Each module takes about 40 to 60 minutes to complete. Participants who finish both modules will receive a Certificate of Completion. In these modules, staff will learn how to:
- Define and understand ACEs.
- Recognize how ACEs can affect health and well-being.
- Understand how toxic stress impacts the body and brain.
- Learn why protective factors are important.
- Identify trauma and common signs and symptoms.
- Learn how trauma-informed care principles can create safe and supportive spaces.
- Prevent re-traumatization by recognizing triggers.
- Manage stress, strengthen communication, and build resiliency.

- You will be redirected to a list of online courses offered by the Windsor‑Essex County Health Unit. Scroll down and select, “Understanding ACEs and Trauma‑Informed Care.”
- Before accessing the modules, you will be asked to log in:
- If you have previously completed a Health Unit course, log in using your existing username and password.
- If this is your first time using the site, you will be prompted to create an account.
- Once logged in, you will be able to access the first module.
