The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) is advising residents of possible public exposures to Pertussis, also called Whooping Cough. This comes after a cluster of five confirmed cases were found in the community in June.

Local data shows that vaccination rates among Windsor-Essex County (WEC) students is strong. Early in 2026, the WECHU reviewed student records for compliance with Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA).

In the fall of 2025, immunization records of all secondary students in Windsor and Essex County were assessed by the WECHU (20,359 records). Effective March 31, 2026, 99% of all secondary students in Windsor and Essex County (WEC) are up to date with the ISPA requirements.

As of Friday, March 20, 99.7% of all elementary students in Windsor and Essex County (WEC) are up to date with the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) requirements.

In the fall of 2025, immunization records of all elementary students in Windsor and Essex County (WEC) were reviewed (46,163 records). Today, 98.7% of these students are up to date with the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) requirements.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) is encouraged by strong immunization compliance across the region, with over 93.1% of students in Windsor and Essex County currently meeting Ontario’s school immunization requirements under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) R.S.O.1990 (ISPA).

With respiratory illness season upon us, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) is reminding residents to protect themselves and stay healthy this fall.
