At the start of September, in an effort to control rising COVID-19 cases, the WECHU under the direction of former Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Wajid Ahmed implemented a letter of instruction enhancing public health measures for special event venues, bars, restaurants, and nightclubs.

With the provincial vaccine verification system now in effect, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is enhancing these measures in all indoor recreational and fitness facilities to include those 12-17 years old.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) is declaring an outbreak of COVID-19 at St. Joseph’s High School in Windsor. A school outbreak is declared if there are two or more cases in a school that are linked and if there is evidence that at least one case could have been infected in the school.

In an effort to increase vaccination rates, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has partnered with Transit Windsor on “Destination Vaccination”, a program which makes it convenient for residents of Windsor and Essex County to receive a vaccine close to home by bringing nurses on the road to administer shots in key locations using a city bus.
