2025 marked a pivotal year of growth, resilience, and renewed purpose for the Windsor‑Essex County Health Unit. As our organization continued to evolve, we embraced significant change with optimism and a shared commitment to strengthening public health for our community.
One of the most transformative milestones this year was the implementation of our new organizational structure. This redesign has allowed us to better align our teams, enhance coordination across programs, and modernize the way we deliver services to the residents of Windsor‑Essex. Already, we are seeing the benefits of this structure. Collaboration has improved, pathways for service integration are clearer, and we have a strengthened ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emerging health needs.
That responsiveness was especially evident during the provincial measles outbreak, when our staff demonstrated extraordinary resilience and professionalism. Despite the pressures and uncertainties that accompany communicable disease events, our teams adapted quickly, supported one another, and rose to the challenge with unwavering dedication. Their efforts ensured timely case management, public communication, and community protection, reinforcing the essential role public health plays in supporting the health of our region.
Across all departments, both newly formed and longstanding, our staff continued to deliver meaningful programs and services that promote, protect, and improve community health. From immunization clinics and oral health services to compliance inspections and advisory committees, our work remained grounded in the values of service, equity, and evidence‑based practice. I could not be more proud of how our departments embraced change while continuing to make a measurable impact on the lives of Windsor‑Essex residents.
This year also marked the beginning of an exciting and forward‑looking process: the development of the WECHU’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan. With input from staff, partners, and community members, we have developed a roadmap that will guide our priorities and investments over the next five years. This plan reflects not only where we are today, but where we aspire to go: toward a more innovative, collaborative, and resilient public health system.
I extend my sincere gratitude to our dedicated staff, whose perseverance and passion drive our success, and to our Board of Health for their ongoing support and leadership. Together, we have achieved so much in 2025, and I look forward with great optimism to what we will accomplish in the years ahead.
