Mental Health Promotion in Windsor-Essex County

Mental illness can be defined as a condition that is characterized by alterations in mood, thinking, and/or behaviour, and associated with symptoms of significant distress and decreased functioning. There are a wide variety of mental illnesses, ranging from mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, schizophrenia, problem gambling, and substance use disorders.
What is mental health promotion?
Mental health promotion (MHP) is the process of enhancing the capacity of individuals and communities to increase control over their lives and improve their mental health. By working to increase self-esteem, coping skills, social connectedness, and well-being, mental health promotion empowers people and communities to interact with their environments in ways that enhance emotional and spiritual strength.
