Where can you find a Registered Dietitian in Windsor and Essex County?

Dietitians work in a number of different settings and organizations to address the needs of our community. Some dietitians work closely with individuals through one-on-one counselling, to help you adjust your dietary habits to match your personal health needs. Other dietitians target larger groups or populations by developing community programs, services, and policies that help improve the health of the community as a whole.

Please note that dietitians at the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit do not provide one-on-one counselling services.

Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare offers two programs for obesity management.

The Medical Program is a 24-week, in-person or virtual, group program facilitated by a Dietitian, Social Worker, and Exercise Specialist.  The program uses the Optifast 900®meal replacement, and participants receive regular monitoring by a doctor specializing in obesity medicine.

The Surgical Program has participants complete medical, behavioural, and nutritional assessments to determine readiness for bariatric surgery.  Participants are guided to begin lifestyle changes in order to be ready for surgery.  Preparing for surgery may take a number of months with visits to the program’s Nurse Practitioner, Doctor, Dietitian, and Social Worker.  Participants are followed medically after the surgery and receive guidance from Dietitian and Social Worker.

Both programs are for adults and require referral made through the Ontario Bariatric Network by a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner.
