The Best Drinks for Summer

Warm weather is here. It’s time to get outside and play! When you’re having fun this summer, remember that water is great for swimming and other activities. Water is also the best drink to help you stay hydrated.

Drinking water helps your body stay cool and strong. Milk and fortified soy drinks can also help. You can also get water from foods like fruits and vegetables.

Tap water is easy to get, and it helps stop thirst. You don’t need to keep it cold, so you can take it with you. This summer, bring water to the park, the beach, and sports.

Skip the Energy Drinks

Energy drinks often contain caffeine, plus added vitamins and herbs. Many energy drinks have a lot of caffeine—sometimes more than the daily limit for children and teens in just one can. Too much caffeine can make it hard to sleep. It can also make you feel irritable or nervous. It may cause a fast heartbeat and headaches. Health Canada says that energy drinks should not be used by anyone under 14 years old, people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or anyone who is sensitive to caffeine. Many energy drinks have more caffeine than Health Canada recommends for kids and teens, which can be unsafe.

When grabbing a drink this summer, grab water!
