IGRA assesses for past exposure to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is more specific for the bacteria than the Tuberculin Skin Test and is not affected by past BCG vaccination. More information can be found in the Canadian TB Standards, 8th edition, Chapter 4.
Two IGRA blood tests are licensed for use in Canada. The tests are not covered under OHIP. QuantiFERON TB GOLD is currently offered for a fee by Dynacare and LifeLabs at select locations with lab requisitions. Patients will need to call ahead to inquire about the availability of the test.
