Winter Walk Day - February 7

Winter Walk Day happens each year on the first Wednesday of February and celebrates the activity of walking during winter.

Schools across Ontario can celebrate Winter Walk Day with special events on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, or throughout the month. We encourage schools to participate by promoting walking and wheeling to school and organizing winter-themed walking events. Register your celebration activities and events with Ontario Active School Travel!

Tips to add Winter Walk Day to your school’s activities:

Incorporating Winter Walk Day activities and events into your school day is easy! If walking to school is not possible, do a winter walk as a class!

  • Pick a day or week to walk to school. Provide hot chocolate to the students to celebrate.
  • Play eye spy while walking to school. Pick a theme and have the students look for items on the walk.
  • If walking as a class, do a nature scavenger hunt.

Here are some suggestions for entertaining assembly activities:

  • Organize a classroom banner competition or poster contest about Canadian Winters and choose the winners at the assembly.
  • At an assembly, have a contest between teachers - who can put on their winter gear the fastest!
