The following statement can be attributed to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) regarding Hantavirus
The top five videos in the Grade 6 - 8 and Grade 9 - 12 divisions are now open for public voting.
Local data shows that vaccination rates among Windsor-Essex County (WEC) students is strong. Early in 2026, the WECHU reviewed student records for compliance with Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA).
In the fall of 2025, immunization records of all secondary students in Windsor and Essex County were assessed by the WECHU (20,359 records). Effective March 31, 2026, 99% of all secondary students in Windsor and Essex County (WEC) are up to date with the ISPA requirements.
As of Friday, March 20, 99.7% of all elementary students in Windsor and Essex County (WEC) are up to date with the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) requirements.

In the fall of 2025, immunization records of all elementary students in Windsor and Essex County (WEC) were reviewed (46,163 records). Today, 98.7% of these students are up to date with the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA) requirements.
This afternoon, local partners with the Windsor Essex Community Opioid and Substance Strategy (WECOSS) met urgently to respond to a recent rise in opioid overdoses in Windsor and Essex County. Similar increases have been seen in similar communities across the province and in nearby communities like Chatham.
