What is healthy eating?

It’s about: Overall pattern of eating

It doesn’t mean: Eating ONLY “healthy” foods

Contributes to enjoyment, satisfaction, mental and physical well-being

It looks a little different for everyone!

Healthy eating is about the overall pattern of eating. It isn’t about eating ONLY “healthy” foods. The new Canada’s Food Guide, recognizes that enjoying your food is part of healthy eating: We feel better when we’re able to enjoy the taste of food, the people we’re eating with, and have positive experiences with eating. Therefore, it is important that we focus not only on eating a variety of healthy foods each day, but to recognize that eating has a context – eating is social, cultural, and emotional. Eating should contribute to enjoyment, satisfaction, and mental and physical well-being. As an educator, you play an important role in helping children discover the true meaning of healthy eating!
