Staying Safe this Halloween

Halloween is a fun night for kids. Here are some ways to keep everyone safe!
Costume Tips
- Dress warmly with layers under costumes.
 - Make sure the costume is not too long to avoid trips and falls.
 - Wear costumes that are flame resistant (e.g., made of nylon or polyester).
 - Use face paint instead of masks. If using a mask, make sure that children can see and breathe easily.
 - Wear reflectors to make sure everyone can be seen in the dark.

Trick-or-Treating Tips
- Go with a group, never alone.
 - Stay in areas you know and visit houses with lights on.
 - Look both ways before crossing the street.
 - Use sidewalks for walking and cross at stop signs or lights when possible.
 - Keep a hand sanitizer with you and use it when needed.
 - Check all treats before eating and make sure they are safe and sealed.

Sick? Have Fun at Home!
If your child is sick, skip trick or treating and plan a fun Halloween at home.
- Bake Halloween-themed treats.
 - Paint a pumpkin.
 - Watch Halloween movies or dress up.
 - If you still want to connect with friends or family, plan a video call to share costumes with one another.

Handing Out Treats this Year?
Keep trick-or-treaters safe:
- Avoid small toys that could pose a choking risk.
 - Choose treats that are nut-free.
 - Clear your walkway to prevent trips and falls.
 - Use battery-powered lights instead of candles in your pumpkins.
 - Keep house lights on to welcome trick-or-treaters.
