Indoor Radon Levels in Windsor-Essex County: 2016/2017 Study Summary Report

Radon is a naturally occurring odourless and colorless gas that poses health risks with high indoor concentrations. This document highlights the main findings from the Radon Know Your Level and Awareness Campaign in 2016/2017.
Almost 15% of detached or semi-detached homes participating in the study had Radon levels greater than the Government of Canada Radon Guideline of 200 Becquerels per cubic meter (Bq/m3) with 22% of Essex County and 8% of City of Windsor homes exceeding the recommended indoor Radon levels. The Windsor-Essex County average concentration was 106 Bq/m3. House characteristics such as year of original construction and number of levels in the house influenced the amount of Radon accumulating indoors.
