Windsor-Essex County Breastfeeding Resources

  • Windsor-Essex County Health Unit
    • Provides breastfeeding education, telephone support, and in-person support from the prenatal period until weaning. All services are provided by Public Health Nurses. 
    • Breastfeeding Help Line - To access Helpline services call 519-258-2146 ext. 1350 (Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
    • Breastfeeding Clinic - one-on-one breastfeeding support, call 519-258-2146 ext. 1350, to book an appointment in our Windsor, Essex, or Leamington office.
    • Prenatal Breastfeeding Classes - For dates and locations call 519-258-2146 ext. 1350.
  • Windsor Regional Hospital – Met Campus Maternal Newborn Clinic
    • Provides in-person breastfeeding support for babies up to six weeks of age. 
    • Services are for clients who give birth at Met hospital.

  • Victorian Order of Nurses (VON)
    • Provides breastfeeding education from the prenatal period through baby’s first year of life.
    • Prenatal breastfeeding classes are taught by a lactation consultant.

  • La Leche League
    • Provides breastfeeding education and telephone support. At monthly meetings in-person  support is offered. 
    • Mother-to-mother support.

  • Doulas
  • Midwives
    • Provide breastfeeding education, telephone support, and in-person support from the prenatal period until baby is six weeks old. 
    • Services are for current clients of midwives.

  • Teen Health Centre
    • Provides breastfeeding education and telephone support from the prenatal period until weaning. 
    • Services provided by Registered Nurses.
    • Services are for teen moms up to the age of 24.

    • Provides breastfeeding education, telephone support, and in-person support from the prenatal period until weaning.

    • Provides information about medication and illness when pregnant or breastfeeding. 
  • Telehealth Ontario

    • Registered Nurses are available to answer questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
