Food Safety Inspection Dashboard
In 2025, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) developed an interactive dashboard designed to consolidate inspection results for food premises across Windsor and Essex County. The dashboard provides the public with a user‑friendly interface featuring interactive maps, filtering options, and infraction trend analysis that supports consumers to make informed choices.
To reach a broader audience, the WECHU implemented a comprehensive promotional campaign utilizing social media, bus advertisements, and community posters. Since its release, the dashboard has shown strong engagement with over 11,600 page views and more than 60,000 user interactions.
Potassium Iodide (KI) pills Distribution
Windsor and Essex County is located within the primary and secondary zones (16km and 80km respectively) of two nuclear installations in Michigan and Ohio – the Enrico Fermi 2 and the Davis-Besse. Although both installations are not located within Canadian borders, the impact they have on our region is the same in the event of a nuclear emergency.
The WECHU and local municipalities collaborated in a KI pill replacement campaign in 2025 to ensure residents living in the primary and secondary zone are prepared for a nuclear emergency as the previously distributed KI pills expired in March 2025. A total of 12,815 KI pills were provided through in‑person pickup events, direct mail‑outs and a door-to-door initiative. The primary zone achieved a 78% KI pill uptake rate at the end of 2025. The WECHU will continue to make efforts to ensure all residents within the primary zone have KI pills.
