The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) is launching its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, a guide that outlines how we will support and improve public health over the next five years.
The plan was developed by listening to residents of Windsor-Essex, community partners and our staff. It reflects the priorities and challenges facing our region and responds to the evolving role of public health in Windsor and Essex County.
“Our public health system is changing, and we continue to face complex issues and ongoing health inequalities,” said Dr. Ken Blanchette, Chief Executive Officer at the WECHU. “Our new Strategic Plan meets these challenges by using staff expertise, community input, and local data to create a clear path forward for the Health Unit.”
The plan focuses on working together with partners on key health issues, improving health equity, strengthening public health monitoring and transparency, supporting prevention and early intervention, and building a strong, innovative organization. These priorities highlight the WECHU’s commitment to improving health and reducing inequalities across our community.
“This plan shows our shared dedication to improving population health through early action, better system coordination, and addressing the social and economic factors that impact health,” said Dr. Mehdi Aloosh, Medical Officer of Health. “It is guided by evidence, shaped by local voices, and supported by clear objectives, giving us a strong foundation for long-term public health impact.”
