World Kindness Day: November 13

“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.”
-Dalai Llama
What is World Kindness Day?
World Kindness Day is celebrated every year on November 13. It’s a chance to remind everyone how powerful kindness can be—for others, and for ourselves. Being kind includes things like caring, accepting people who are different, and being thoughtful.
How did World Kindness Day start?
World Kindness Day began in 1998 when a group called the World Kindness Movement (WKM) inspired people everywhere to be kinder. It’s not about religion, politics, or business—it’s simply about making the world a fairer, happier place.
Why is celebrating World Kindness Day important?
Kindness helps others and makes you feel good too! It can reduce stress, keep your heart healthy, and even help your body stay strong. Kindness spreads—when you’re kind, it often inspires others to be kind too!
How can we celebrate World Kindness Day at school?
Here are some ideas to celebrate at school or home:
- Challenge students to do five acts of kindness—for example, give someone a compliment, help a friend, or make a nice card for someone.
- Share some love with our planet. Plant some flowers or a tree or pick up litter in your neighbourhood.
- Raise money or collect donations for a charity. Dress up in a fun way or have a theme day.
- Help students practice “self-kindness.” Have students write a list called “Things I Love About Me” - including what they like about themselves, what they are good at, and the people they are thankful for in their lives.
