For Immediate Release
Monday, March 4, 2019 | 2 P.M.  | Windsor-Essex County

To date, approximately 1200 students born in 2001 and 2002 have incomplete immunization records with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. These students received suspension notices early in February, but due to a possible labour disruption, the suspension date of March 29, 2019 has been cancelled and no students will be suspended.

Although students will not be suspended in March, the Health Unit encourages everyone to ensure their immunization records are up-to-date. “It’s important for the Health Unit to have up-to-date immunization records for all students in order to protect our community from vaccine preventable diseases,” said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health.

The Health Unit will still be providing two drop-in clinics for students to receive outstanding vaccines in March:

It is important to know that health care providers are not required to forward immunization information to the Health Unit.  The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has launched on online tool “Immunization Connect Ontario” (ICON) that provides students with the ability to access their immunization information and update their record online. Students with a medical reason, or conscientious or religious beliefs that prohibit vaccination, have the option to complete and return a signed, original exemption form to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. An in-person, educational session provided by the Health Unit must be completed for all non-medical exemptions. Please see for more information.

There are three easy ways to update your immunization record:

  1. Enter the information online to ICON, the secure reporting system at
  2. Fax the immunization record to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit at 519-258-7288
  3. Call the Healthy Schools Department at the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit at 519-258-2146 or 1-800-265-5822 and select extension 1222
