According to the Canadian Community Health Survey, approximately 4% of Canadian youth between the ages of 12 to 19 reported having an anxiety disorder (2012). Children and adolescents who have an anxiety disorder have a greater risk of having substance use issues, continued anxiety disorders, and other mental health issues as they grow older. Approximately 73% of teachers in Ontario feel that anxiety disorders are an important issue to address in schools (Children’s Mental Health Ontario 2013).
Among Grade 9 – 12 students in Windsor-Essex County, 30% felt nervous, anxious, or on edge most days in the previous two weeks (COMPASS, 2018)
