The following statement can be attributed to Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health for the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU):
“The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit fully acknowledges the importance of getting the residents of Long Term Care Homes and Retirement Homes (LTCH/RH) immunized for COVID-19. The coordination and administration of the Moderna vaccine is dependent on having the proper supports and requirements in place prior to vaccination. Our health unit is working closely with homes to ensure they have the information they need to obtain informed consent from residents. We are also supporting the IT technology and Ministry reporting that is required.
We are working with the priority LTCH/RHs to organize and start administering the vaccine as soon as possible. At this time, no further details regarding the vaccine program may be shared publicly out of respect for the privacy and confidentiality of residents. The safety, security and timely administration of the vaccine to our LTCH/RHs residents is our priority.
We will provide as much information as we are able to during our regular weekday YouTube briefings. We ask that everyone respect the privacy of those receiving the vaccine.”
