Contraception, also known as birth control, is used to prevent pregnancy. There are many different types available and they are often chosen based on an individuals’ needs, medical history, side effects, cost, effectiveness, lifestyle, and personal preferences. 

They are generally grouped into these categories:

  • Hormonal methods
  • Surgical methods (permanent methods)
