Windsor-Essex County Breastfeeding Resources

  • Windsor-Essex County Health Unit
    • Provides breastfeeding support from the prenatal period until weaning by telephone and videoconference. All services are provided by Public Health Nurses.
    • Breastfeeding Help Line - To access Helpline services call 519-258-2146 ext. 1350 (Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
    • Breastfeeding ClinicDue to COVID-19, Breastfeeding Clinics are on hold until further notice. Breastfeeding support is provided by telephone and videoconference. Call 519-258-2146 ext. 1350 to speak to a nurse
    • Virtual Prenatal Breastfeeding Classes
  • Windsor Regional Hospital – Met Campus Maternal Newborn Clinic
    • Provides in-person breastfeeding support for babies up to six weeks of age. 
    • Services are for clients who give birth at Met hospital.

  • La Leche League
    • Provides breastfeeding education and telephone support.
    • No in-person help at this time.
    • Monthly meetings are currently in a virtual format.
    • Pregnant and breastfeeding parents may attend any meeting across Canada. https://www.lllc.ca/virtual-meetings-calendar
    • Parent-to-parent support

  • Doulas
    • Provide breastfeeding education, telephone support, and in-person support from the prenatal period until baby is six weeks old. 
    • A fee is charged.

    • Provide breastfeeding education, telephone support, and in-person support from the prenatal period until baby is six weeks old. 
    • Services are for current clients of midwives.

  • Teen Health Centre
    • Provides breastfeeding education and telephone support from the prenatal period until weaning. 
    • Services provided by Registered Nurses.
    • Services are for teen moms up to the age of 24.

  • Sunparlour Pregnancy Resource Centre
    • Provides breastfeeding education, telephone support, and in-person support from the prenatal period until weaning. 
    • Services are provided by Registered Nurses.

    • US website that provides information about medication and illness when pregnant or breastfeeding.
    • Motherisk in Ontario in no longer available.
  • Health Connect Ontario
    • To access Health Connect Ontario call 8-1-1 (TTY: 1-866-797-0007).
    • Registered Nurses are available to answer questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in multiple languages.
