The cervical cap is a barrier method of birth control that is to be used when you anticipate (expect) that you will be having sex. The cervical cap is a flexible rubber or latex cup that fits over the cervix.
A contraceptive sponge is barrier method of birth control that contains spermicide. It is disposable (you throw it away), and used only when planning on having sexual intercourse (sex).
 
The Emergency Contraceptive Pill protects against pregnancy after forced or unprotected sexual intercourse or when a birth control method has failed, if used within 72 hours.
