Nutrition and Pregnancy
From the beginning of pregnancy until the baby is born, the unborn child is growing and needs good nutrition. Healthy eating during pregnancy ensures that adequate nutrients are available to help the baby grow. Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating provides a pregnant woman with all the information she needs to eat healthy.

To increase calcium intake:
- Choose more servings from the milk products food group.
To increase dietary folate intake:
- Choose more servings of whole grain and enriched grain products.
- Choose more dark green vegetables and legumes.
To increase iron intake:
- Choose more servings of meats and alternatives.
- Choose more whole grains and enriched grain products.
